The olfactory practice of Maya Njie is a preservation of her past in fragrance. Scents act as souvenirs that take on new forms in the lives of others. These are perfumes of recollection, associated with moments in time that are closely attached to her dual Swedish and Gambian heritage. 
As a self-taught perfumer, Maya’s practice was developed through experimentation; the blending of raw materials with a variety of essential oils, aroma compounds and resins;
nature and science combining in autobiographical fragrances. Maya’s olfactory identity draws inspiration from her upbringing and a treasured archive of family photographs from the 1960s, transformed into fragrances that feel nostalgic yet contemporary.
